Hard disks can help here in an intelligent way. Everything is stored compactly and unnecessary mountains of paper are avoided. But no matter whether at home or at work, problems with the hard disk often cause stress and annoyance. So how to solve this unpleasant problem?

Hard disk repair - tips and tools

  • With Windows onboard tools, you can try to repair faulty disk segments. To do this, right-click on the hard disk under "Computer" and select "Properties" > "Tools". There click on the "Check" button to test the hard disk for errors. This process may take some time.
  • If the hard disk makes any noises during operation, such as rattling or clattering, this indicates that the hard disk is defective.

  • If your hard disk has given up the ghost, you can try to recover your data with the freeware Datenrettunds tools.
  • In case of an error, you should first switch off the PC and disconnect it from the power supply. Open the case and check if the hard disk's cabling is intact and if the connections are correctly seated.

Repair hard disk

A hard disk is a real treasure and especially when used for a long time, a lot of data can accumulate here, which is often indispensable for the respective user. But first the question arises whether the hard disk or at least individual segments are really damaged. This can be easily checked, because with a right click on the hard disk certain errors can be quickly detected. For this there is the so-called check option. Depending on the system (Windows, Apple, etc.) this designation can vary slightly. However, even for the less experienced user it is often easy to find and mostly self-explanatory. If the hard disk seems to be defective, you should nevertheless remain calm. It is not always necessary to assume the worst. Regardless of whether an error was detected, the computer should first be switched off. It can be useful to not only reboot the computer, but also to disconnect all cables and interrupt the power supply. After rebooting the computer, the test function should be tested again. If everything is OK, there should be no more errors. 

If errors continue to be displayed, you must continue to search for a solution to the problem. There are also numerous free tools available on the Internet for checking and repairing the hard disk. Here one should fall back however only to respectable offerers, because naturally exists also here as with so many things approximately, around the PC the danger itself a virus to catch. Serious providers are often tested and have test reports available for viewing. In case of doubt one should also not simply download something somewhere, but fall back on tested providers or pages. A defect in the hard disk can also be noticed acoustically. For example, rattling, grinding and unusually loud noises are noticeable here. If such symptoms are clearly noticeable, this is more a case for the professional, especially in the commercial sector. If mechanical problems are the cause, the device may have to be completely disassembled. As an employee, you should avoid experiments of any kind at all costs. If problems arise or data are lost due to a well-intentioned self-experiment, the employer can even hold his employee liable. Problems with the hard disk can have many causes. Sometimes they are harmless, sometimes serious. Whether at home or in the office, if there is any uncertainty, an expert should always take a close look at the matter.

Festplattendefekte

Festplattenausfälle können in die folgenden drei Kategorien eingeteilt werden:

Logisch:
Logische Schäden an den Daten der Festplatte können durch Systemfehler, Datenbeschädigung oder Löschen von Daten entstehen. Es gibt viele Formen von Schäden, die auftreten können, z. B. Beschädigung des Master Boot Record, Formatierung des Laufwerks, Installation eines neuen Betriebssystems über benötigte Daten, wenn es fehlerhafte Sektoren auf der Festplatte gibt (unlesbare Bereiche) und die Anwendung beim Versuch, auf Daten auf dem Laufwerk zuzugreifen, scheinbar einfriert, oder das absichtliche oder unabsichtliche Löschen von Daten durch Personalaktionen oder Malware.

Elektronik:

Die Leiterplatte (Printed Circuit Board, PCB) oder eine ihrer Komponenten kann beschädigt sein. Dieses Problem kann auftreten, wenn die Spannung nicht stabil ist und eine Spannungsspitze auftritt, die die elektronischen Teile auf der Platine beschädigt. Dieses Problem tritt auf, wenn der Code im ROM beschädigt ist oder die Daten des Systembereichs beschädigt sind. Die Firmware und der Systembereich enthalten Code, der die verschiedenen Komponenten der Festplatte anweist, wo die angeforderten Daten zu finden sind. Wenn die Elektronik oder der Mikrocode beschädigt ist, kann die Festplatte nicht funktionieren.

Physikalisch:

Diese Beschädigung kann auf verschiedene Weise auftreten. Ob die Köpfe auf den Plattern gelandet sind und sich nicht mehr drehen lassen (Sticktion), das Spindellager eingefroren ist, was die Platters ebenfalls am Drehen hindert, oder im schlimmsten Fall, wenn die Festplatte einen Headcrash erleidet (heruntergefallene Festplatte). Bei Head-Crashs kann der Schreib-/Lesekopf so beschädigt sein, dass er nicht mehr funktioniert (Festplatte macht Klickgeräusche), oder er hat sich ganz oder teilweise von der Arm-Baugruppe gelöst und dabei die Magnetbeschichtung von den Plattern abgeschabt.

b) Data recovery

After the first analysis we present you the result in writing and an estimate of the expected data recovery effort. You always remain the master of the procedure and decide whether you want to have the data recovery carried out or have your defective data medium returned.  

The costs of the data recovery itself depend on the effort of the data recovery. We distinguish between the three service types "Standard" (349 EUR), "Clean Room" (650 EUR) and "Clean Room Plus" (950 EUR). Details can be found in the diagram below. Usually this step will be completed within 3 working days. Deviations from this may occur in times of high workload.
